Finally At Peace

Published in the Pocono Record on 3/27/2007:

"Michele Birnbaum, 60, of Tobyhanna, died on Sunday, March 25, after a long battle with cancer. She was the wife of Wayne Birnbaum. Born on June 14, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Esther Furevik of Brooklyn, NY, and the late Ragna Furevik. She worked as Chief Bookkeeper for Birnbaum's Real Estate in Stroudsburg. She was a graduate of Brooklyn College, was a published poet, and enjoyed traveling to exotic places. In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by her two daughters, Darlene Smart of Sydney, Australia, and Marcie Rothman of Hazlet, NJ; her son, Gregg Birnbaum of Stroudsburg; seven grandchildren; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, 23 N. Ninth St., Stroudsburg, PA 18360.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jewish Heritage Connection, 529 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, PA 18509."

I Wish I Was Shocked

I felt an acute sense of outrage and sadness when I read this.

It's nice to know that when the NYPD isn't firing 40 to 50 bullets at unarmed black men, it's officers are conducting covert surveillance of US citizens engaging in constitionally protected activities. And on Joe Taxpayer's dime, no less.

I miss being proud of my government.
